Monthly Meetings

The Louisiana Fern Society meets on the third Monday of each month at the University of New Orleans (UNO) Campus in building 17, the Geology Building, room 1000. The meetings begin at 7:30 P.M. Visitors are welcome at no charge to the monthly UNO meetings.

During the summer months, meetings are held in the field, at various locations, on Saturdays, or Sundays. The meetings usually begin at 12:00 P.M.

A Door Prize is awarded to a lucky winner at each meeting.

Members are asked to bring 2-3 ferns or related items such as growing supplies, for the raffle table. Each member will receive a free raffle ticket for each item brought.

This building is across the parking lot from the geology building. Someone will be at the regular location to direct anyone to the biology building.

April 18, Tour Gardens at Governors Mansion - 10:00 A.M. The tour will begin promptly at 10:00, so let's meet on the Governor's front porch at 9:45.  The address is 1001 Capital Access Road.  Take I-10 to I-110 and get off at Exit 1-E.  (Or check Google for more detailed directions.)  The mansion will be on the right.  At the gate there is an intercom; tell the guard that you are taking the tour with Irene.  The parking lot is on the right side of the mansion.   After the tour we will have lunch at a nearby restaurant.
May 21, 9:00 AM - Field Trip with The Nature Conservancy Group to their Abita Creek Flatwoods Preserve, east of Abita Springs

Directions to Abita Creek Flatwoods Preserve:

From I-12 at the Abita Springs/Mandeville Exit (Exit 65, the first exit east of Hwy. 190, Causeway Blvd.) go north on LA Hwy 59 about 5 miles until you get to the town of Abita Springs. At the red light (there is only one) go straight. This is Level St. which turns into La. Hwy 435. From the red light, go about 4.5 miles to the Abita preserve. It is just past 2 closely-spaced bridges. You will see signs on the right with golf names, like Par, Birdie, and Eagle. The entrance to the preserve is on the left across from Green Street. If you get to the Abita Springs Golf and Country Club entrance, you have gone too far.

We will lunch afterward at the Abita Brewpub

August 26, Meeting at Mary Elliott's 'Fronderosa' in Ponchatoula

We will meet at 10:30 A.M. and tour her gardens, then go to lunch afterwards at O'Donnells in downtown Ponchatoula.
